Re: Just realized What I really Got!

I am also trying to get you guys some pictures too. I have them all on the camera but do not know how to get them onto the computer.. then the website.

You need a USB cable from your camera to the computer to copy them.
Then try photobucket.com to host your pictures. You'll need to setup a free account. Then copy and paste the direct link to your message.
Good luck...:D

Champion plug charts are full of horse hockey. JOHNSON, the people that made it, calls for a J6J, which is obsolete. Closest currently available plug is J6C. J6J was a true two-cycle plug. Today's engineers don't even know what that means.

What? it's just a little hotter??? Hotter plugs DISSIPATE heat better.

Coils and points are fine.// Will replace plugs next.

I did do a little more research. Is that thing supposed to be 16/1 fuel oil ratio???????????!! or 20/1 maybe?

i rebuilt one last year,if those points are original there is no way they are fine ,ditto for the coils also.take the flywheel off and take a picture of the coils and post it if you can.when i took the coils out of the one i redid you could literelly crush them with one hand they were so rotten.the amazing thing is they actually ran the motor ,but on something that old unless your positive theve been replaced, their toast.24:1 is good for that motor.be thankful you dont have my old 39 evinrude its about 10:1!do yourself a big favour and listen to what FR has to say.also FR is totally correct there is a champion site on line that gives complete b.s. for plugs ,go by the manual .also look closely at the fuel lines and actually give them a twist with you hand ,i wouldnt be suprised if their rotten also.i wish i had of took pictures of the one i worked on it was a beauty but inside it was just plain rotten and needed points, coils ,condencers and new fuel lines.wouldnt hurt to do a carb rebuild either, trust me its not really that hard if you have a manual and some time on your hands and you wont regret it.

Indeeed... Heres the scoop. Fuel Pump is brand new. I mean new..! All of the hoses are new. I did notice that whoever replaced it did not tigten them down on the clamps. The carborator is USED. Which could be a problem.

The plug wires are a little cracked. They are new also, but are cracked a little....?? I also noticed that one wire does not "SNap" onto the plug very well.

The motor was running O K last summer at Lake Sutton here in WV last year. Alot of the old timers on the lake said that she wasnt "Opening up" all ot the way. But she was a runnin and purrin like a kitten,,,slow. LOSS OF POWER>? Result in me running 50/1 When I should have been running 24/1 maybe?

Also... I have a throttle cable problem also. It is a big problem. All the parts from cable up into engine are worn. Preventing operation.:p LONG restoration on this baby.

I am going to take a look at coils ect. again. I am also going to get my uncle to look at them. Like i said im no engine mechanic, but do have a large mechanical sense of things. I very well could be wrong.

I also bent my trailer toung and hitch last trip fishin. Done $1000 damage on the tailgate of my truck and had to turn in on insurance. Reason why is the toung latch was rusted and I did not know. Hit a bump, she come off at 70mph. Broke one chain and bent other. I about ****!

Here is the site for fuel mixtures.

http://www.csgnetwork.com/marineoilfuelcalc.html

Looks like 5.333333333333 ounces of oil, per gallon. For a long time, I used to run 8 ounces of oil per gallon. No wonder I smoked up the neighborhood.:D:D:D:D
