I bought a Crane electric ignition conversion for my 390 Fode... do I still need to use a resistor even with this newer system? if so, Is there a newer coil out there that would eliminate the need for it? Thanks.

No. Actually need to replace it with a heavier wire from ignition source.

I switched my old '71 van with a 350 to HEI from a junk yard, Just ran a 12awg wire from an ignition circuit in the fuse box to the distributor.

I don't know about that Noel. I had a Mallory Unilite in my Mustang. If I didn't run a resistor on it it would burn the module up. Now I didn't have a resistor to the coil but ya HAD to have one for the module. Ford factory Ei systems (Dura-Spark) use a resistor also. The second (right hand) stud on the soliniod triggers a full 12 volts during cranking conditions and then the system runs on 10.8 volts.

You are correct in the HEI requires full voltage though. You can get away with up to 16 volts in an HEI set-up.

I was afraid of that KB. The instructions mention using one if it originally had one but I was hoping technology could get around it. Just trying to clean up the mill a little. Thanks
