Hey , Let me start off by saying that I really enjoy reading all of these posts. I really don't know how things got fixed before the internet.
Now onto my questions. I bought a Polar 19x8 skiff a few yrs back. Got it for a real good deal and got what I paid for of course. I have had carb probs and other fuel issues with my 90hp yammy but have it running great now. But I also knew that there were problems with the deck. I put off the work until this year and a few weeks ago I tore into it. I figured on just replacing the deck and being good. But after getting it up found that the stringers were rotten and foam was saturated. This boat being a 99' I figure he left it sit outside full of water most of its life. I've decided to redo it all. I have read lots of posts and watched lots of youtube videos and gotten good and bad insight. I think that I have a pretty good plan on doing the job just have sooo many dif opinions on products and no clear answers on material(resin or epoxy, type of glass, gelcoat ). I am on a strict budget but want it done right. I expect the boat to last for years after this rebuild. From all that I have read I need to order from UScomposites. I live North of Atlanta and dont know of any suppliers around here so I have to order all of my material. Does anyone have a rough estimate of amount of glass, resin , foam, gelcoat and which are easiest and best to work with?
I want to try and get it all here at once so I can work instead of waiting for multiple orders to get here and paying more shipping. Any thoughts ,advice, suggestions or just plain help will be greatly appreciated.
