Pole Selection on Tach?

I just purchased a Teleflex Tach for my 2004 60hp, 4 stroke, 4 cylinder Merc. Depending on how I read the instructions with the tach I can set the pole selector two different ways. Does anyone know the correct number of poles for this motor?
