Re: Political semantics

Where did all these "activist judges" come from?
They were spawned, fully formed, from the head of Zeus.

I thought everybody knew that

since 1980 we have had 16 years of republican presidents, and 8 years of dems.
It just shows how much more productive the Dems are. ;)

quote: since 1980 we have had 16 years of republican presidents, and 8 years of dems.

Yes but that is the way the system was designed, and I suspect this was discussed and foreseen. The tactics of opposite party stonewalling on appointments may be an unforeseen endrun around constitutional intent. Considering PW's original statement:

"But it is constitutionally critical to maintain this judiciary independence from any specific political agenda, be it from the right or left."

I agree but I think we are interpreting it differently...in that the political stonewalling is the problem. Right now the country is prevented from going right as it desires by the political process. By the same token if it wants to swing left in the future it should be free to do so.

Hmm very impressive!!
Special interest won yet once again.Instead of trying to analyze special interest groups all you forum members have been spirited away from the subject by one very smart forum member, who maybe, would rather you discuss something else.Very impressive indeed! This is how the special interest lobby works. They make you look the other way and before you know it they make their move.
Rolmops.

Re: Political semantics

Hello again.
My dear Boomyal, the radical left is far too idealistic and splintered. There is far too much infighting going on over there for them to be any effective special interest group at all.Special interest groups are often highly organized very well financed groups such as industrial groups and their opponents.Such as :coal burning energy companies against clean water and air legislation and their opponents fighting for it.Or the drug industry, the A.M.A.and the H.M.O.s on the one side fighting against socialized medicine and groups like the AARP fighting for some sort of socialized medicine.Usually namecalling is a strategy used by one of the lobby groups,in order to mobilize support of population groups that feel victimized or taken advantage of by political organisations.
Rolmops.

Re: Political semantics

By your own definitions and examples, rolmops, Special Interest Groups can be found throughout the political spectrum. The Left just conveniently ignores that fact. There is no doubt that they exist, it is part of democracy. You and I are our very own mini-special interest groups.

However, the term has become one more phrase, written up in the Socialist Handbook of Talking Points, that the Left has so cleverly used to catch the ear of those who do not listen with both.
