I havent started on my free 18' cajun yet. Been too busy reading up on all this great info all you folks have posted. I have question, my bro-in-law does spray foam insulation for homes. The "rigid" foam he sprays is a closed cell type. it is supposed to be water tight. Should i concider using this or not?
This stuff is soo hard i cant stab two fingers in it kung fu style.

If you've got connections like that, I'd use the heck out of them. It's basically the same stuff they sell at US Composites although, if it's that rigid, it's probably the 6 or 8 lb variety which is even more water tight!

Check the Coast Guard regulations on boats. I think it's supposed to have foam in it if it's less that 20' long. That being said, it's great that you can get a "pro" to help out with it. I've seen some fellows who've foamed their entire hull because they had the same hookup. Not sure if it affects the ride or not but look at it this way: With a little ingenuity you could think of all kinds of cool stuff to do with this. Like let him spray your rod holder box with it and cut out custom holes for your favorite rods like an assassin's gun in the movies! Guaranteed not to be many of those little touches out there!

I think its 7lb foam. were talkin bout a free boat so even if i have to pay for the foam so what. my bro-in-law uses a air powered body file with like a 4 foot long serated sword blade to trim excess. its truly amazing stuff to watch the whole process.
