can any paint with that is considered polyurethane ok? Oil based and not water based. I was thinking that enamel or acrylic would be bad. Just curious, trying to save some money but at the same time I don't want to waste my time. I am not looking to make the boat look like new just workable and presentable.

Re: polyurethane paints

Anything poly is probably ok to use. Marine types usually cover better per coat. Before polys came it was oil based enamel, which worked fine on wood or fiberglass. It is softer and chalks quicker. Marine brands being better coverage with less thickness (better pigment)and "Porch N Deck" enamel second best. All of them share minineral spirits for thinning.

Thanks. Just found out that my Lowes carries boat paint. Rustoleum topcoat and bottom nonfowling paint. It was about a third of the price so I was pretty excited. Just finished painting the bottom of my boat minus the rear third that I did not get because of the trailer. Thanks for the advise that gives me quite a few more options.<br />B

Bruiserman. Do you have any pics of your paintjob? What steps did you have to do using the rustoleum brand? I have a bass boat that I'd like to paint. the pinat job is in very good condition, but it has that old 70's brown/gold fleck and I'd like to update it witha new paint job.
