Okay, I'm new at this. What I am needing is a manual or some kind of publishing on restoring pontoon boats. My Dad who doesn't get on the computer needs printed and diagramed material. He is restoring a 24' 1988 Lowe Sunbird Pontoon Boat w/40HP Johnson Evinrude engine. If anyone can help me I'd appreciate it:eek:

Make sure you have the skill set required to complete this project as it involves all kinds of different things to complete.

First you have figure out how it was put together to get it apart then lay out and attach wood and rewire, set rails and furniture ect, it isn't necessarily hard but it takes some thinking.

I have rebuilt several boats from the keel up and you have to be god at alot of things to do it at least if you are stripping to the frame.

Rebuilding a pontoon is essentially removal of the existing stuff and replacing damaged components. Take pictures during the disassembly, label parts that will be reused so you know where they go. And the most important aspect of the assembly process is to make sure the boat is perfect level before attaching the deck and furniture. Failure to do so will cause stress failures when the boat is placed in the water.

I re-built a 24' Lowe Sunbird, with new plywood, carpet, etc. All it takes is $$$$$ & sense, common sense that is. If he is a good craftsman then all will be good, if not, then, well. There is,was a magazine called "Pontoon Boat, or Boating", I have not seen it in a while, it is published by the same people that have the "House Boating" magazine. It may have some articles on reconstruction. The most important thing during the installation of the new plywood floor is that he must keep every thing --"LEVEL"-- and square. If not then when it is done it will have a twist, and that ain't good. good luck

One more thing. Lowe used 5/8" plywood on my boat, yours may be the same. So when you order decking don't get 3/4". Also the plywood will need to have a router run down the 8' edge so it can fit into the "H" where the sheets come together. When you take the side cap off you will see what I mean. good luck
