Re: Pontoon End Guards?????

Wow! That seems like a really poor design. Looks like a knife blade sticking up. My toon has the deck extended over just the toon and that way it doesn't interfear with trailering. Seems like you could bolt something through the front deck and build a little platform over the toon faily easy.

Problem is I wuld have to alter my trailer. I would like to make seat/swing type thig to put on after anchoring out. I can build almost anything, but design is not my stongest siut.

Not much of a speller either...

Could you make a hinged deck extension that would fold open (flat with the deck) when off the trailer and then when loading simply fold it closed.

Just an idea may not look the best but would make it safer when you were stopped .cut one of those foam swim noodle toys to length then make a cut long ways and it should fit over that sharp edge to prevent anymore incidents.

Why not simply build two rail sections that bolt to the deck in front of the pontoon. I doubt you will be able to engineer around the edge of the pontoon in a manner that is cheap and still looks good. Limit the front deck access space. Make them dive off the center of the deck.

I see two options. If you don't use them for anything, breakout the saws all and cut those hazards off just above the weld and then smooth them out with a file. Number 2, build a seat on top of each of them. Some heavy aluminum angle bolted on each side that runs back under the deck and is attached back there also. then mount a board on top of the angle. You could even carpet the board to match the deck.

I would have to agree with the two seats above the toons. My toons are nice and round up there but they do stick out. Its only a small concern I doubt someone would cut there leg open on it like your kid ( glad to hear hes doing better) but I do worry about the kids maybe hitting there head or some other loosley flailing limb. I know after this season mine is getting a new deck put on it and I think I will be adding two more seats at the same time.

I would maybe try that spray-on bedliner, it is about 1/8 thick when sprayed on. untill you can make something to cover them. that way you and wife can still get out on the water.

thanks Jack

They make something called trim-lock that is the same thing that goes around the seam on your door jams in your car, I am an electrician and we use this all the time to prevent wires from getting scraped or cut on sharp metal give it a try i think its pretty cheap

build a full width teak or starboard swim platform across the front... hinge it so that it folds up to become a fence along the front edge... put a couple pads on the bottom that set on top of the toons when down..... done deal.

OH MAN, WHAT A POOR DESIGN! I thought of the same thing. I would cut the point off leaving a rounded edge and then put on the trim lock edging. You can get it at any upholstery shop. The noodle idea would work too. Another low buck idea would be to cut a slit in some automotive heater hose, slip it on and drill some small holes and use zip ties to hold it. The trim lock would look professional. Or, cut the knives off. Time for all of us to safety check our pontoons for the accidental fall.

I would use the pool noodles or pipe insulation, if you want black instead of neon colors. Fit it over that hazzard and fill the void in the foam with the expandable foam in a can, Great Stuff is the brand I like. This will serve two purposes. First it will bond the pool noodle/insulation to that bracket. Second it will add additional cushion to any impact that might take place.

What a bad design!

That is an accident waiting to happen, knife blade sticking up in the air
Hope all is well now with your son.

We have pontoon also but nothing like that, it has a deck that covers the toons

I like the idea of covering each toon separately. with your trailer configuration you wouldn't have to do any mods either. Also wouldn't have to hinge either.

You could make a alum frame out of angle and place a new deck inside the frame. Attach to the deck and attach to the piece sticking up off the toon.

Good luck!!!!!
