Re: Pool paint?

I built pools back in the 80's. Used a ton of that pool paint. Pretty tough stuff when applied over concrete but never used it on fiberglass coated plywood so not sure. It has a lot of UV protection. It might work, just don't have any history to prove it.

The pool paint does not get the abrasion since it is underwater. The same company makes a garage floor paint........ however, I agree with kilowatts and try his crazy idea of using boat deck paint!! You can even add non-slip additive to that stuff.

Re: Pool paint?

Obvious is that pool paint is for pools and pool surfaces are nothing like the sole of a boat.
Up front there on the bow you have a deck, the surface inside that you stand on is a sole.
The finish on the sole has to be safe and durable.
That's why most would use gelcoat or a deck/sole paint, or some use garage floor paint or bedliner.

So the answer of what I think is that I wouldn't and have to wonder did you just find a free gallon?
Why would you want to?
Besides free is there another benefit your thinking of to using something made for something completely different than you plan to use it?

Well sometimes you find something that works in different applications then it was intended to....;)

also one more thing to consider is that you do not see many pools jumping wakes and flexing.

I am all for experimenting, but one concern I have would be how well pool paint would resist stains. Seems to me that it would stain pretty easy.

Re: Pool paint?

I had my own business that renovated swimming pools, at one time I asked a manufacturer if chlorinated rubber paints would work on fiberglass, the response was no, I never tried it after that so I don't if it will stick or not.
