I'm back now that my new computer is up and running. Sorry I had not responded to those replying to my post.

To recap I have a 1977 sea ray w/ a 190hp omc that does not go much faster 18-19mph (3800-3900rpm) at WOT. Originally the boat would topout at 34mph-38mph according to 1977 brochure. Granted I don't expect it to still do 30+ but I would think upper 20's would be possible. According to my mechanic the compression ranges from 140 to 150 and prop (13x13) is not the problem. Original prop would have been a 13x14. The carb was replace last year. Had the hull checked for water and was told it had water in transom and hull were it would be expected (?) for a 30 year old boat. BUt not to the extent that it would result in greatly reduced speed or RPMs.

Any info on how to get more speed or additional questions to ask my mechanic would greatly appreciated.

Thanks Don for the response, I'll pass the list on to my mechanic. I'm pretty sure he has already addressed most of the obvious or common issues, but then maybe not. I'm hoping he will be working on it this week.
