I have an old Yamaha 28HP from arounf 1978. Lot of problems getting it to start. Once started runs okay and will start first turn until allowed to completely cool.
Checked compression good result I think 130psi each cylinder. Definately getting fuel to the cylinders as plugs are wet with fuel. Yellow spark at plugs, new leads, and plugs fitted. Points cleaned and adjusted. Still wont start with at least 50-60 attempts. Then I just jumps into life.
I think the problem could still be spark related. Maybe a condenser or coil ?

A yellow spark means it's weak, you should get a bright blue spark,
as to what's causeing it?
try asking this question in the Yamaha forum. Most of us in this one are more familiar with Johnstons and Evinrudes.

P.s. The Mod's will probably move this post over there anyway
