My 1977 sea ray w/ a 190hp omc does not go much faster 19mph (3900rpm) at WOT. Origanally the boat would topout at 34mph-38mph (4200rpm) according to 1977 brochure. Granted I don't expect it to still do 30+ but I would think mid to upper 20's would be possible. According to my mechanic the compression ranges from 40 to 50 and prop is the correct one. The carb was replace last year. There isn't much flotation to get waterlogged and the hull appears to be solid. It has been suggested that I weigh the boat but not having a trailer for it makes that impossible.

Any info on how to get more speed or additional questions to ask my mechanic would greatly appreciated.

you mean it ranges from 140-150? if it was only 40-50 i dont think the mechanic would bother checking if the prop was the right one or not..

maybe check the timing advance weights in the distributor. He must mean 140 compression....

If those compression numbers are correct,:eek: the fastest way to better performance in a new or re-manufactured long block.

19mph (3900rpm) at WOT. 34mph-38mph (4200rpm)

I think you're still Tied to the Dock,...........

There's No Way that 300RPMs is going to get 19MPH More.........

That along with the Compression #s posted,.......

Just Don't Add Up..............
