I was cooking some poptarts in the toaster, for my daughter, and when I pulled thm out of the toaster, one of them broke, and I got that gooey crap on my hands. Needless to say, now I have second degree burns all over my right hand. It hurts so bad. Ice is the only relief. Doctor said that there is not much he can do, told me to take Motrin for pain.

Nathan,

Didn't your mother warn you about those pop-tarts being hot?

Sorry to hear that you burnt yourself.

Keep the ice on it!

I just ate mine for a lunch snack. Sat there reading the label and wrapper. Guess what? warnings everywhere. Guess what else? They don't taste very good.

I'm thinking the cool water of the lake, along with occasional dipping hand into the minnow bucket, will ease the pain.

Re: Poptarts are dangerous!!!

Nathan, When my kids were smaller, they were warming theirs up in the toaster. The toaster was set on high and it was under the cabinet. Guess what happened next. Within minuets my kitchen was on fire!

Luck has it the fire department was just a few blocks away. They got it out with minimal damage. Shook up the kids a bit, now they are real cautious on their cooking in the kitchen.

Needless to say, we don't buy Pop Tarts anymore.

Hope your burns heal up quickly. I just burnt mine today on liquid freon. Had a faulty expansion valve that let loose and dumped the whole charge. With me being an idiot, I tried to plug the hole with my finger to keep it from going down into the store. When the fingers on the one hand got froze, what do I do? Use my other hand. DUH  Have to wait until tomorrow to find out the real damage. They are just numb now with some tingling.

In 20+ years of working with the stuff, I never have had a serious case of frost bit as this time.

Lets see whose burns heal up the quickest. :D SS

Oh, the pop tart filling..hotter than a chicken pot pie right out of the oven.

You might laugh, but I use preparation H on burns and you don't scar, it relieves the burning and almost everyone has some in their arsenol of meds. :p In fact a friend of mine drop glue from a glue gun on her leg, her first instinct was to grab the hot gue off her leg. She burned the skins off her leg and fingers. She used prep-H and within a month you couldn't even see a scar.

Re: Poptarts are dangerous!!!

Hey, a buddy was cooking up some spuds for dinner, those baby russetts I think. He took them out of the boiling water and let them sit for a sec. then decided to pop a little one in his mouth. I guess it hit the back of his throat and he 'gulped' in pain as it then made it's way down. Yep, burned badly all the way down his throat. Alcohol was a factor :)
I'll warn him about pop tarts too! :)
too funny

It seems to me that several (10+?) years ago, Consumer Reports had a small blurb on this very Pop Tart problem. I think that was before the package warnings. Use ice & keep it clean and dry, good luck!

Rogue1---I am taking a chance that you are serious about not knowing what a poptart is so here goes!!Picture a thin pie crust 4"X3" with abomt 1/8" filling(strawberry, blueberry, etc.)topped with the same size top crust with white or chocolate etc. hard frosting that can be heated in a toaster and VOILA--POPTART!!!If you are just pulling our socks this post is an illusion and I don't exist!!!!!!LOL
