Thanks for the kind words! Oh, the paint is in, so I took advantage of the warmish weather we've been having this weekend and painted the sides! And I have to say, I am quite happy with how she turned out! Pictures attached to prove it happened. :lol:

Thank you! It is called Flag Blue and is quite dark blue. It dried a little darker than I expected but it is a nice contrast to the white. And I think it is going to look nice in the sunshine.

Thank you Wood. That R&R method worked great! The bottom looks almost as if it was sprayed. And the dark blue paint came out quite nice as well. That one being a real marine paint I think smoothed out as it dried. I was a little worried that it would show the roller streaks but they disappeared as the paint dried. I think just one more coat of the blue and then she'll be ready for the flip! :whoo:

I have watched that video about 30 times, it's the one that has me thinking of adding a motor well. The motor well on the boat in the video seems like it would be pretty simple to build.

Your boat looks great Pek! I finally got mine flipped over this past weekend and am now working on sanding/fill on the top deck. I still have quite a few things to finish up, but still hoping to make it in the water, possibly in May.

I agree, that's a pretty nicely built boat they have in that video. And I'm glad to see this that there's still interest in this old design. That motor well looks pretty interesting as well and as you said, shouldn't be too hard to incorporate. I may have to ponder that.

How did you flip yours over? I had some friends come over and help lift and flip. I'm wondering if there's an easier way though. I'm hoping to have mine ready in the May time-frame as well.

So I have this crazy idea for how to flip the boat over, all by myself. :facepalm:



I am actually able to lift the aft section off the saw horse by myself using two pulleys as the block and one as the tackle. Now I just need to find a beam over the bow and duplicate it there. Then I should be able to hoist her up and turn her over. I have a pulley at the bottom of the hoist where I have a loop of the rope going through. I am hoping that will let me turn her over easier than having her slide on the rope.

I called my buddy next door and we each grabbed an end, lifted and flipped. The boat isn't too bad for 2 people to flip, we paused for a second setting the boat on it's side (on top of the stands), re-gripped and flipped the rest of the way. I like the pulley idea, looks like it should work, it would be nice to flip mine by myself any time I wanted!

SGoergen, I used an engine host on one end and a standard come-a-long on the other attached to the trusses in the ceiling area. And once we lifted it clear of the cradle, it turned over like magic without any problems. And I see you actually did the same type set up with the pulleys. I used the bilge drain hole for one lift point and I attached a 1/2" black iron pipe at the other end. There was no tendencies to flip by itself either when we lifted it either. That part really amazed me. Just be safe and carry on. JMHO

So I flipped her this weekend. In hindsight, I shouldn't have done it by myself. I got one of those proverbial bugs and just decided to go for it. The block and tackle system worked well. I was able to lift the back end well clear of the saw horse. And I was also able to lift the bow by myself. The rope loop through the pulley worked nicely. She flipped over very easily. At one point she slid out of my grip though and I scraped some of the bottom paint in the bow off. I'll have to fill it in later. When she slid away from me she scraped one of my legs pretty good. So I have a bandage there now, and I have also been lectured by the wife. :lol:

But, in the end it still went fairly well and she is now right side up.




I have to touch up the paint on top of the spray rails. It was hard to paint them upside down so I expected to have some more work to do there.
