We have a '87 Galaxie Cuddy w/ a 4.3 OMC/GM motor combination. The exhaust manifolds look to be the original "bat wing" type. When we took the boat out on T. Roosevelt Lake this past weekend we had a problem with the port side exhaust manifold heating up. I've done a bit of research since then, and I'm now trying to get some advice. 1. Can we use something like muratiac acid (pool acid) to try to clean out the rust in the manifolds, or will that just be a Band-Aid and therefore we need to 2. Buy new manifolds. If it's 2 where can I find good manifolds @ a reasonable price? I've looked online and found prices from $999. to $169. Thanks, we're new to all of this...

Have you actually seen the rust in the manifold? Also have you checked or changed the impeller in the outdrive? How is actual engine temp?

Enging temp seems to stay around 160. Have seen rust as we pulled the manifold while on the lake.

Changed the impeller at the lake also.

Ayuh,.. That musta been Fun.....

You outta ditch those 1 piece manifolds as Soon as possible,...

They've been known to just Rust out,+ dump their water into the motor at the Most inopportune times...
Even in Sweetwater.....
