Hello Anybody/Everybody-We are considering purchasing a portable hatch air conditioner for our 24' Bayliner. Before dropping the cash on one this spring, I was wondering if anybody has any experience or suggestions with these. Thanks in advance for any advice I receive.

Re: Portable Air Conditioner

i vaguely remember reading a review in 'boating magazine' on a portable air conditioner. carry on-board, hook up the exhaust duct, and go to town. the review said it worked as advertised. but remember that ac works to a certain temp differential (for example, 20 deg) if it's 100 deg outside, you may only reach 80 deg in the cabin.

A buddy uses one to cool his 29' flybridge boat when docked, and it works great. I forget which brand it is though.

I have been using a cruise-n-carry for about 7 years now.I absolutely love it .Plenty of cooling power. The only thing is getting it into the hatch is not so simple. This is the second boat I have used it on and the last 255Regal I owned had an older style hatch which was much easier to get the unit through and it sat better. My current 280 Regal has a newer style hatch which I guess is a little smaller. It now takes 2 of us to get it through from inside the cabin.I used to be able to reach down and pull it up by myself. Now it has to be pulled and then angled to be able to fit out.I am pretty fit and strong and can see a problem for someone that is not trying to get the unit on the deck. Some installed units are not much more.I am very happy with it but would consider installing a unit if I ever need to replace it.Charlie

I know a fellow who uses on on his 25' Formula, in Hatteras. He was a live aboard for quite a while and it kept the boat very comfortable. Oh, it was a Cruise-Air.

Thom
