How do you keep a portable fuel tank in place? I drive down the road and it everywhere but were it suppost to be. It's sets on a vinyl floor. Would putting a thin piece of rubber under it help?

A piece of roofing rubber may help and some people fasten small strips (wood, metal, plastic) to the hull....... You must be driving down some wild roads ....... my 6 gallon tanks really do not move much.

You could even fasten them with a bungee and install hooks for it.

Use the same type strap and hooks you use to tie down a battery. SS hooks can be bought at a hardware store. Just buy a piece of nylon webbing and a pair of D-rings and make your own.

Or, Tempo makes a plastic tray kit with mounting hardware.

I use the battery tie-down straps. Bought them at Wal Mart in the battery section for cheap.

The roads are in Omaha Ne. need I say more!
The tank is in a very small space, there is about a 1/4" the top and one side. I had a piece of rubber backed carpet I wedged in there. I'll give that a try if it don't work I'll have to go with some kind of strap.

Thank You for the replies

OMG, gas tanks should not be allowed to bounce around. Don't giveratry and seeifitworks, giterdone right the first time.

Five bucks and fifteen minutes of your time to install a strap ain't too much to ask.

You would have thought the factory would have provided a strap.

Gander Mountain cooler mounting brackets ...

I ripped the double backed seats out of my boat and used these to mount three coolers - two of the square, rolling type as front, port and starboard seats and one, 94 QT rectangular unit in the back, as a double seat. I used the Igloo version of your corner/tiedown pieces to do it. I like this system a lot, because the coolers do triple duty - cooler, storage & seating.

I also put one or two, 12 gallon aux tanks in the bow section, when I need long range. I had been using pressure treated 1x1 strips as "bumpers," but I like your idea, especially since the mounts include a place for a tiedown, along with simply acting as a stop. Replacing the wood with the cooler mounts may just have to be my next project!
