Portable Plastic tank And fuel sender install

I purchaced a 15 Gallon portable tank for my toon to replace the 25 Gal. tank that was leaking. Is there anyway to install the fuel sender in this tank. I also have another 6 Gal tank, when connected to the larger tank will give me a total of 21 Gal, but I am only concerned about mounting the Gauge in the larger tank. The tanks is 15 inches deep and I saw at west that they have a Gauge that will read in tanks from 6"-25". Just not sure about mounting it in a portable! Also, the battery is going to be in the same "Open compartment as the larger Tank. Is that a NO-No? If so, I can probably move the battery elswhere without to much hassle. Any thoughts would be appriciated.<br /><br />Rick

A fifteen gallon tank would be portable in name only, on my view. I think you can probably mount a sender. You might also consider the low tech approach, and use a dipstick to measure the gas in the tank, if you can't see the darker fuel through the plastic (probably can't if the tank is not in an area getting some light). <br /><br />I share your concern about a battery in close proximity to the tank. A permanently mounted tank would normally be vented outside of the compartment, and your "portable" probably is not -- with resultant potential for gas fumes. But if there is plenty of ventilation, you should be OK.

Oldboat1,<br /><br />Thanks for the reply! The tanks will be mounted in the compartments in the rear area under the "Lounge Hatch", which is very well ventilated. The compartments have about a 20" tall X 10 " wide opening at the front of the comparment to fresh air. The tanks have built in gauges, But its a pain to open the Hatch to look and see how much fuel you have left, unless the Bimini top is up,as it rests on the Hatch, which we usually leave down. I would of course have to raise the Bimini Top to fuel up, but I may go ahead and get another 15 Gal. Tank and put it in the other compartment on the other side, which would give me a long range in a toon! Sure would be nice to know when I'm getting low on fuel, by just looking at the gauge! Also, is there any concern about filling them up as far as grounding problems? The last toon I had, had the tanks sitting on the back on a platform and I never had any problem. Rick,<br />can you let me know how mounting the sending unit works out? I have two 20 gallon plastic tanks and I would like to do the same thing. Where did you find the sending unit for the plastic tank?
