Hiya me again, My 1975 650EL 3cyl. dropped 3 feet, cracked both carb throat mounting plates and generally ruined my spring early summer. I got new carbs different model number but A series still they fit fine used old needle valve assemblies floats good, two recarbs haven't double checked jetting yet but thet's secondary I believe to my primary glitch. I pulled my exaust plate and found the top ports black and sooty good, middle black and shiny hmmm, and lower spit shiny oh oh. I'm hoping it's not the block. CHRIS 1956 suggested "it may be a cracked inner water jacket or baffle". It's also looking like the lower main bearing seal could be gone. Before I pull the powehead and wreck the rest of my summer. Anyone out there care to elaborate on CHRIS1956's suggestion? Thanks again, great place

Look to see if you have any 'clean' areas on the exhaust plates. This would be a sign of water steam cleaning the exhaust, hence a crack or other leak. Being the bottom cylinder and the age of the engine, I'd look at the lower crankshaft seals. But that's just me :D

Chris..............
