1982 25 Murc. Rebuilt carb. Motor starts with it in gear at higher throttle position.
Cannot adjust idle just yet due to it has a Miss/sneeze. At higher rpm's it seems to smooth out but not like it should. I did not change the intake gaskets on the carb to intake or for the reeds. I sprayed carb cleaner at the gasket surfaces for the carb and reeds but no apparent leak. Yes, I worked with the air screw.

What else should I be looking for????
What about them small diameater hoses coming from the back of the motor to the intake??? No apparent leak there either. Any suggestions?? Thanks in advance.

Re: Possible lean sneeze??/Miss

I posted a similar question about my 1999 Merc 15 having what I think is a lean pop/sneeze at trolling speed(would feel like I hit something and momentarily broke a prop pin, with a puff of smoke, then back to normal). I would describe it as a "soft" backfire(no loud bang). Also seemed to lag in the first half of acceleration, but would then smooth out for the last half. But still felt something was off. Does this sound like you?

I was told to turn the mixture screw out a little. I haven't had a chance to put it back in the water and test it out.

Any chance you have a high altitude jet installed?

That's all I know, which isn't much, but thought I'd try and help anyways

Well I am running on a stand and rabbit ears. I can see now why the responce to this post is low. Lots of questions have been posted about sneezing. Understood.

I worked the air/fuel mixture screw, no help. Altitude not the problem in my case.

I am fixin to go outside and remove the carbs and reed cage. I may have a problem with the reed cage being corroded or not seating properly.

Removed carbs, pulled reed cage. They was somewhat dirty. Disassembled, cleaned etc;. Put all back together. will see after the sealant I used dries if it worked. Meanwhile, will watch the Saints kick some butt.

Well the Saints sucked.

Started the motor and it ran on two cyls and sneezed. Then after about 3 minutes it started to run on only the top cyl. I checked the coils and wires and is not the problem. That leads me to the power pack. How do I read out the power pack? This may have been the problem all the time. Agree or disagree?? Don't want to spend the money without knowing if it is the pack. Also have to check if it is avalable. Thanks in advance.

If your 25 is anything like my 7.5, here is what I have as far as ignition. The trigger is up at the flywheel, it moves when you advance the throttle, then you have a small switch box on the kill switch side of the motor, then you have your two coils. Your 25 is probably similar. Not sure what a power pack is on a Merc, I have heard that term for Johnson/rude.
