New member, if it's anything like the photo forum I use I look forward to a lot of great info. Anyway, I have a 98 sea ray 210 with 5.0, when I turn the key to raise or lower the unit I get a very loud steady noise. It doesn't stop when I start the engine. It is coming from under the dash and is seriously loud. It started yesterday when we put in for the first time this year. Any suggestions? Thanks

You might post this in the MerCruiser forum. My '88 MerCtruiser had an oil pressure sensor which alarmed if key was on and motor not running. What you have described is not normal.

98 sea ray210 mercruiser. When I turn the key to raise or lower the unit I get a loud noise like a warning. Noise doesn't stop when I start the boat. Never had this problem last year, it started when we put the boat in the first time this year. Thanks

you might be hearing the Alarm buzzer.

i too have a 1996 sea ray 210, little older but very similar boats. Previous owner of my boat cut out the buzzer alarm at some point but i purchased a brand new one to reinstall.

the buzzer is supposed to sound when the key ON Engine OFF and go away when engine is running.

alarm sounds for these conditions

- low/no oil pressure
- low/no drive oil
- over hearing condition

buzzer sounds at ignition ON engine OFF because there is no oil pressure.

look under the dash and you should see an alarm with 2 wires purple and grey wires that you can unplug, should be ziptied to the wire harness bundle somewhere

if unplugging it makes the sound go away then plug it back in and start figuring out whats making it sound off with engine running.

you can unplug Oil pressure switch at the motor and the coolant temp switch as well and drive oil and alarm should go OFF and then plug in each one one at a time to see which one is triggering the alarm

if its none of them then possible the alarm buzzer is old and going bad and has a constant buzz

Thanks Nextelbuddy, I will be trying your suggestions on tues. My boat is on the water 65 miles away and I'm waiting till the 4th crowd leaves. I have a feeling the buzzer is bad cause it started at first put in of the year.
