This is some of the most useful and important information I have read since I have owned my Chrysler. Not that it matters but, I think you made an excellent choice. I could see myself doing exactly what you did if I need to. I have found exactly the same thing as you as far as replacing my Chrysler with another brand. I need to talk to Mr. Franz about all of this. I like my Chrysler. But I worry about have an important part failing and ending up with the proverbial "Boat anchor". If I sell my running Chrysler now for $1000 and put that into and Evinrude/Johnson/Mercury it's seems like a good thing to do. I working on this now so I can be ready for the spring 2022.

The economics of rebuilding an old Chrysler/Force doesn't make sense until you see what it would cost to buy another older motor of any brand.....for $1500 I will be right back where I was....and happy with it.....if this swap works out as planned.
Bad news is Mr Franz is trying to retire and is slowly selling off his inventory he has accumulated over the past 40 years or so......that is why he didn't want my core. He said it will take a long time to get rid of everything so he will still be around for a while.

I did a little google search. 2 places sell rebuilt Chryslers PH. They cost from $1800 to $2200 plus core. Just like you said. I think down sizing my rig is the key. A boat that only needs 70hp or less. Trickle down effect on cost. Better MPG on the boat a tow vehicle. Lower cost for everything on the motor.

pontoon boats should be GPM not MPG

Yes. My gas gauge is not accurate but I would estimate around 2-2.5 gallons per mile.

I hear you brother.....if a smaller boat will be good for what you do on the water then not a bad idea. My old rig has sentimental value and I like tinkering around with it...otherwise I would have upgraded by now. Whatever "floats your boat".
