so EZ what did you use for foam in your boat? I am working on a 73 Larson its got the modified V hull. What is in those spray cans? Can it be used for boats?

I used noodles. Others have used the pink or blue sheet foam. Avoid the spray cans as they are typically not closed cell foam. I'm not opposed to pourable foam for fiberglass boats (just aluminum). US Composites seems to be the place to order that.

I bought my boat already full of poured foam.I've never taken the floor up,but now I have a couple of soft spots in the floor, I'll be having a look real soon.Got me worried about trapped water.

I will vote for poured foam. I have never seen any boat manufacturer that uses sheet foam or pool noodles. I have never seen a USCG approved method of boat building that uses sheet foam or pool noodles.

Please jump in and correct me if I'm wrong (include name of manufacturer)

Just north of you Wooldridge boats uses sheet foam.

This came from a other site http://forums.outdoorsdirectory.com/showthread.php/117525-Heavy-Hewescraft/page2

Pleasure outboard boats under 20 ft. are required to have level floatation and pleasure inboard boats just floatation. The common way is to use sprayed in foam. The sprayed in foam IS closed cell, it's 2 parts when it's sprayed it mixes and grow's to fill the area being sprayed. When this happen's it gets very warm. When it cools down it shrinks a little leaving small gaps next to the rails, bulk heads, sides ect. Water gets traped in those areas and when it freezes it breaks some of the closed cells and they aren't closed any more, and when it thaw's those cell's soak up water. Next time it freezes it happens again. If this process happens enough time's eventuality all the foam becomes water logged. Glen

I am in the process of refoaming my HC searunner Igot the foam out of the stringers which was a chore and replacing with pipe insulation availible at Home depot It to Is a closed cell http://www.homedepot.com/webapp/wcs...rizontal1-2-_-NA-_-203357665-_-N#.UHReDq6D_pc

Hope this helps others

12. Please do not post to threads that have been inactive for more than 3 months UN-LESS you are the original poster. We have very active forums and any thread that remains inactive for that long should be considered "dead". It is especially confusing when there is an entirely new question posted to an old thread. This is considered a hijack. Please start a new thread of your own.
