Hello

1993 evinrude 175 glet

power coil reading for voltage and ohms to high
dva voltage connected 49 should be 11to 22
dva voltage disconnected 190 should be 45 to 120
resistance 90 ohms should be 50 to 60

This is the black sleeved stator and blue sleeved power pack
my understanding is that the black sleeved stator should only be used with the black sleeved
powerpack

Any sugestions

thanks

Re: power coil readings to high

Well a coil is not going to produce more power than it is designed to make. Sure it can degrade if it is damaged or shorted (no voltage then). So I would say check your part numbers for the two components against the parts catalog for the year and model. I don't know about colored sleeves on the components.

Remember too that those specs are for certain temperatures and will deviate by a margin if they are done at higher or lower temps. The ohms readings specifically. The peaks that a component can take will deviate from the specified voltages as well. Yamaha says that if the voltage exceeds the specified it is alright, provided all components are the same as intended

You can't get the black sleeved power pack. Maybe blue or grey. The blue was designed to work with the black sleeve stator. If you put a grey sleeve power pack on a black sleeve stator you could have loss of quick start and slow.

What is the problem and why are you checking the power coil ??

Hi Boobie

I have the BLUE sleeve powerpack and BLACK sleeved stator, i guess this is ok
will my BLACK sleeved stator work with the newer RED sleeved powerpack or do
I need to get a BLUE sleeved power pack. Some of the DVA checks I did point to a possible failure in the powerpack

Thank You

Sorry but I've been retired for a few years and haven't seen a red sleeve power pack. Check with your local BRP dealer.
