Re: Power loss when trying to pull boat up launch ramp!!!

I went back to the same ramp (even the same lane on the ramp) where I had complete power loss a week ago. This is the sequence I followed at the bottom of the ramp, and it worked PERFECTLY despite me forgetting to shut the traction control/stability control off (duh!):

1. Put it in Park.
2. Applied the Parking brake.
3. Turn car off.
4. Loaded boat.
5. Restarted engine
6. Pressed service brake
7. Shifted to First gear, which automatically released the Parking brake
8. Used both feet to release service brake as pressing gas pedal.

So the only change in process was the First gear with weight distribution. Doesn't make any sense to me...

it makes perfect sense. you had the trans serviced. you had a plugged filter prior and was probably low on fluid.

FWIW, it is not a sealed system. it just takes a lift and the proper tool to take the plug off. if its like my audi, you set the level while running and in gear (takes 2 people to fill trans)

Plugged trans filter would not keep the throttle from opening without setting cel

Hmm. I am thinking you are just stuggling with the gearing of your diff and are up against the stall of the converter.
I've seen this in my rock crawling hobby. Stay up against the stall long enough and you will cook the trans. Most drivers will use slightly different throttle techniques to get them over and obstacle.
Its unnerving to see a 400hp small block stalled on some steep rocks.

it could be the fact that you used the weight distribution or you used 1st gear (low) to climb the ramp.

sounds like a throttle body issue to me. it is an electronic throttle body. they stepper motors that open the throttle blade is known to go out in that family of vehicles (expedition, f150/f250). its kind of strange that it does it only on the ramp though and no where else. how does it pull when you drive home towing the boat? does it seems to stall or miss driving up hills or trying to pass other cars with the boat hooked up?

I've taken the boat to the launch ramp five times since buying this Lincoln Navigator a few months ago.
#1: Power loss on the ramp; no other problem.
#2: No problem on the ramp; however, I stalled while towing it home (check engine light came on). Took it to the dealer, and they diagnosed bad throttle body sensor. Throttle body was replaced.
#3: No problem
#4: Same as #1. I had the dealer replace the fuel filter, and do a transmission fluid flush.
#5: No problem

I would sell it and move on to another brand besides ford with all of its known issues.

life is too short to spend your time trying to fix fords problems.

now all the ford fan boys out there can chime in saying how wonderful ford is

the fancier something is and the more bells and whistles it has is just more stuff to cause problems regardless of brand but in this case ford has bad history

That's a trolling comment if I ever heard one. No, we're not going to get into Ford is Good/Bad, or,
Ford vs xxxxxx conversation.

Yeah, I seriously am waiting to see how this gets resolved. I don't recall what the truck is anymore this far down...Plus faults that are known, mean a lower resale value and a good used value.

well since you have missed what this discussion has been about let me help you get on topic, it is about the OP FORD Lincoln navigator that is giving him a lot of problems that no one can fix for him and THAT is why I said what I did.

I have a 2006 Lincoln Navigator (2-wheel drive - rear). When I attempt to pull my boat (2005 SeaRay 240 SunDeck, 6000# includ. trailer) out of the water on an inclined launch ramp, the Navigator will pull it about 10 feet or so, and then sometimes lose all acceleration and start rolling backwards (until I press on the brake). The engine does not rev or stall / shut-off...It just idles and won't accelerate. I tried shutting the traction control off, but this doesn't help. After several attempts (sometimes 5-7 attempts), it eventually successfully moves the boat up the ramp.
- This occurs whether I try to climb the ramp in "Drive" or first gear
- This issue only occurs when towing the boat up the launch ramp.
- No dashboard lights come on.
- I initiate my climb up the launch ramp by pressing the gas slowly as I release the "regular" brake.

Does anyone know what could be causing this problem?

Thank you!

if it was a chevy or a dodge or a Toyota or a nissan I would say the same thing about those brands and been giving good advice and be right to do so, if you have a brand with many known issues then switch to another model or brand that isn't known for having so many issues.

that's not trolling, its just good advice

certain years of many different brands should be avoided because of issues so should we lie to people and tell them not to avoid certain brand vehicles with known issues?

I think it's fixed by a dealer.. At least it worked ok the last time out. So the throttle body is new, new fuel filter and transmission has been flushed and new fluid. It's way to early to tell the OP his truck is junk. And you shouldn't condemn a brand because of one vehicle.

All modern brands are decent. If they aren't they go away ;)

That was my way of keeping the topic off of brand bashing.
