I am parting out a 1978 15hp Evinrude . The ignition system check out good. I intend to keep the power pack for a spare for my 1988 40hp. Does anyone have any thoughts on this?

It will probably work, but you have to check out your timing advance if switching as they have different voltage setting for the trigger/sensor coils.
You will even loose the SLOW function and rev limiter with the old PP.

Thanks for the reply, I was getting 9volts on the 15, 12v on the 40.

I doubt you are getting those readings from the sensor/trigger coils, must be a meter or error reading.

I was using a DVA connected to my DMM, Service manual gave a minimum of .3 for the 15. For the 40 the min. reading was suposed to be 1.5 . I set the meter on the 2 volt scale and got nothing. So I went to the 20 v scale and go the readings I posted .

Yes I see what you mean, Both of the ignitions on these two motors work perfectly, I was just wondering what typical reading one would get. Thanks for the replies.
