It appears I have a leak in my power steering pump. The fluid actually leaks out while the boat is sitting in my driveway.

My question is, will running the boat with no power steering fluid adversely affect the engine in any way?

1995 Merc. 3.0 LX 135HP

It wont hurt the engine, but it will ruin the pump.

Well,....After the Pump Seizes,..... The Belt Breaks,+ the Alt. Stops turning... Along with the Waterpump,+ Anything else driven by the belt.......

You've Got to Fix It,.......... Now is Better than Later........... ;)

Re: Power Steering Pump question

It may be as simple as a leaking fitting. If it leaks with engine off, it's likely a return line or a shaft seal. Do the simple things first. Check the lines and fittings.

Help me out here, what is a "shaft seal" I see two hoses going into the back of the pump, both clamps are very tight...

Re: Power Steering Pump question

If you wipe the unit off, and re-fill it with fluid, where is it leaking from ? If it is leaking from the front, where the pulley is, it is most likely the shaft seal, which means time to replace the pump.
