Just returned from vacation up on Lake Squam - while we were using our boat, Power Steering fluid kept disappearing. In looking at things the leak is from the pump itself:

We purchased this boat in the beginning of the summer and while the dealer was doing the final check, they found that the power steering pump bracket was broken and replaced it. I am assuming the tech who did the repair, damaged the reservoir while tightening the bolt. Is there any other way to get a crack in the housing?

Can this be welded or do I need to purchase a new power steering pump?

Thanks.

Re: Power Steering Pump Reservoir Leak

remove the cover and braze it closed , or solder with oxy/acet

Thanks - just ordered the puller (auto zone wasn't the least bit helpful...)

Re: Power Steering Pump Reservoir Leak

you can as long as the return port is in the correct position and will not interfere with the manifold, etc.
you remove the mounting stud and reliefe valve and the tin cover seperates from the pump assembly

True you can fix that pump body, but what would happen if you cried to the boat yard where they did the fix. Is it possible they might do something for you?
If they won't or can't help, replace or braze the housing. If you want a case you can get one at M&M Marine Salvage in Meredith, next town south of Squam. Or get a GM pump from the junkyard if it meets BT's description. Then if it's not tight get yourself a chevy truck power steering seal kit from Rockauto.com. Kit is short money.

That looks exactly like mine. I just want to buy a new housing. Anyone have the cross reference for the automotive part that will cost 80% cheaper?

Nevermind, I just went to a local auto parts store and got a fenco replacement pump and res. for $46.99.
