power steering pump

[flashback]

Well I made it up to the lake last week and took old "flashback" out of moth balls. as I was checking oil, putting drain plugs back in and checking fluids, I noticed the power steering pump was low.. I topped it off last fall so about half of it leaked out into the bilge over the winter.. I figure it may have rusted thru or a bad seal. I checked the hose connections and the seem good. anyway I guess I will replace it and what I was wondering is this unit looks just like the typical unit found on most GM cars and trucks of that time period. (1979 CC scorpion with 350 engine). Are they the same? as it would be real easy to go to the local NAPA and pic one up..By the way, happy Easter to all you folks..

You should be able to get one at NAPA but first be sure it's not the o-ring on the pump resevoroir leaking

The pump is the same as an automotive, but the fitting for the return hose can be in the wrong location and impossible to use on some applications.

If the pump is ok you can replace just the reserviour (if its rusted out). Take the reserviour to the dealer with you and see if they can match it up. It's most likely a truck pump reserviour. May just get lucky.

You're going to find that even though ALL of the P/S Pumps LOOK Alike,........<br /><br />They keep moving the Mounting Holes,+ Line Fittings so that None of them are an Easy Interchange...............<br />Except the RIGHT 1...............

thanks for the info folks, I sort of thought it would be that way. Im good at jury rigging, so I will figure it out. I'll let you know what I come up with........
