Power Tilt and Trim sticking and leaking

I need some advice on what may be causing the tilt on my 50HP Evinrude to stick. No problems coming down, but sticks on the way up and engine stops short of full upward tilt eventhough the tilt motor is running. Motor seems to be running very strong and does not bog down, but sticks and releases upwards a little bit at a time. Again, I seemed to have lost full tilting up of my engine. Also, I noticed a leak from one of the pistons on the tilt assembly. O-ring or seal maybe?

Sounds like you may be simply low on fluid. As for seals, I don't know what is available on these old tilt units.

That is what I was hoping was the problem. And since I am new at this, the only other question I have is how can I add fluid? I can live with the little leak for now. Lastly, I thank you for your feedback R. Johnson.

Run the unit all the way up, remove knurled nut at top of oil resivoir, and top off with TNT fluid. Replace nut and run unit up and down a couple of times, and again, stop at top of travel, remove nut, and top off. This will remove trapped air. On this old of a unit, I would not worry about a minor leak.
