Afternoon Gentlefolks,

I have a 1992 Mariner 115 with the single ram tilt unit. I was running across the bay the other day and the trim gave out. Pushing the engine up against the stop. I had to use the manual release to raise it up for trailering, as I thought it was just low on fluid and I could repair it at home. When I got home I noticed that the motor will run (you can hear it) in both up and down, however it will not raise the motor only lower it when I raise it by hand with the manual release. I have tried filling and refilling the reservoir, however still no up. The ram is leaking however I have not had this problem in the past, just need to fill it every once in a while. Is it possible that the seals in the ram are just gone, or am I overlooking something obvious?

Bump, Please help. I have searched all of this forum (and others), and you can't buy a repair / rebuild kit for this dude anymore. All of the sites have it listed as "NLA". Is there something I am missing? Like I said in August, the tilt motor runs when you toggle the switch in both directions. But it wont raise the motor, just lower it.

Thanks again!

Thanks for the quick reply. I'd agree with you except that when I manual raise the motor it doesn't even leak down. I can hang all 240 lbs of my body on it and it won't move. I push the down switch and it goes. When I say it's leaking, I mean I have to fill it once a year. And even then it's not completely empty. I wonder if something could be stuck somewhere?

Re: Power Tilt HELP!!!

my first guess would be that you blew the ring off your shuttle valve. Well, assuming you have the short fat trim motor. If you have the tall skinny trim motor then there is no shuttle valve.

But it doesn't matter what is broken. The motor spins, it has plenty of fluid, but the system isn't working right? Then it is a no brainer. You completely overhaul all of the fluid hydraulics. No point going in and doing half a job. It'll just break again next year if you do that.
