Okay, I've tried to read and talk to people who have been around boats longer than me. I own an older Fish N Ski w/ a Merc 1500 outboard. It has a switch to bring the outboard up to trailer and of course lower it to power the boat in the drink. It was my first boat. Only used it a few times last season.

Now, I purchased another older boat with a Volvo-Penta AQ130c and 270 stern drive.
It also has a switch to raise and lower the drive.

I kind of thought that both of these were just considered POWER TILT and to only be used when stopped/idling.

I was talking to a co-worker about the I/O I just acquired and he said that is all there is is 1 setup. If it raises/lowers electrically then it's also POWER TRIM. Wow, talk about confusing. I could of sworn I read POWER TILT should only be used in IDLE or stopped ????????

Sorry for the rookie question but I'm getting confused because people I've been talking to who I thought were "experts" have conflicting answers LOL.

....sooooooooo...... I thought I'd ask the true experts.:D

Your co worker is wrong. A 270 drive is tilt only. For shallow water operation, you can raise it up some as long as you don't run much over idle. If you do speed up, the drive will push itself back down.
