Power tilt won't go up

I have a 1994 19' Hydroswift with a Volvo Penta 4.3GS PMDA dual prop. I just replaced the hydraulic pump reservoir lift pump (plastic container underneath pump) to repair a leak. I refilled the new reservoir with hydraulic fluid. The drive would raise at first but then stopped before raising all the way. I lowered it all the way, still would not raise after that. The gauge indicates that it is in the full UP position regardless of actual position. I disconnected the UP hose and manually raised the drive about 3/4 way. Reconected hose, the drive raised momentarily then stopped. The drive will go down but not up, gauge still indicates full UP position. When depressing both the up button and red minus button, you hear a click just like when the drive is actually up all the way and the drive stops because it has reached the top position. Any troubleshooting suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

RB-
A Volvo Penta repair manual will help you immensely. Sounds like you're air locked. Run in the down position even though it is down. Try the same in the up. Bleeding the system at the cylinders may help.

Did the trim gauge work before you changed the reservoir? Perhaps you disconnected the trim sender on top of the steering fork inside the boat.

What is the model number of your drive, there should be a tag on the drive on the upper gear box right were the helmet attaches to the drive.

The indicator guage worked prior to this. The number on the drive is FA 393-04. The sender wiring on top of the steering mechanism appears to be okay and still connected.

Re: Power tilt won't go up

That isn't the drive number, it should be something like DP-C or DP-D or DP-E, maybe have a single number after the. I will assume here and give you a link to the DP-D manual, http://www.4shared.com/account/file/85931397/45d46aa9/DP-D.html?sId=w8T1DrGByJWpHMZ7 there is a wiring diagram in the manual that you will have to trace out and understand. Volvo never gave any hints on how to troublshoot the system, just the diagram.
Do you have a digital gauge? If so, as long as the gauge shows full up it will not allow it to go further.

Re: Power tilt won't go up

I found a sticker on the engine that says the drive is a DP-C1, the sticker is a bit faded but I'm pretty sure that number is correct. The guage is analog. Do you have a link to DP-C1 manual?

Thanks for your help Don!

Re: Power tilt won't go up

This sounds really simple but I had the same problem on my boat yesterday. The tilt on my boat would not come up but it moved down perfectly. Come to find out that the negative battery terminal was loose inside of the connector that connects to the battery. I crimped it as hard as I could and it works flawlessly. This is just simple advice and a simple solution after 3 hours of working on the the trim instead of what I should have been working on.......the negative battery connection.
