Power Trim/Tilt Sensor?

Can anyone tell me where to look on my '89 Evi 120 HP V4 VRO motor to find some type of sensor for my trim/tilt? Last weekend, my gauge went haywire and now indicates that the motor is ALL the way down (indicates almost under the boat) at the extreme end of the down indication. When I switch the key on, it sometimes will creep up a tiny bit, but then reverses direction until the needle can move any farther down, even when the motor is up. I am replacing the pan ptt switch, becuase it was corroded and got swamped last weekend with saltwater, which caused the ptt system to malfunction and raise the motor on it's own. Do you think that shorted out or killed the gauge? The ptt system is now functioning fine except for the gauge. PS I checked all the wires on the back of the gauge, and they are all secure.

Thanks!

Re: Power Trim/Tilt Sensor?

hmmm... really don't know much about it, but in my evinrude 225 hp 1994, the trim tilt sender is located in the engine bracket; it has a metal lever that is spring loaded; when the motor is down, the lever is pressed; when the motor goes up the pressure over the lever is released, and the spring force moves the lever in the up direction; I lube the mechanism every once and then, because with time it tends to become "less free" and the spring force is not enough to move the lever up (thus the gauge indicates the engine is in the "down" position even when the engine is actually going up).
