Power Trim / Tilt

I have a 1985 40HP Evinrude outboard with Power trim / tilt. When tilted up the outboard gradually lowers itself to a point where it would be hard to know the power tilt was holding it up. There seems only minor oil leaks on the tops of the hydraulic rams which leads me to wonder what else could be wrong? It lifts up and down very responsively when I use the trim tilt. Could it be low on hydraulic fluid and if so what steps should be taken to refill it if needed? Any help gratefully received?

Mike.<br />Check your manual release screw on the starboard side of the unit. It is recessed in a hole and is a flathead screw. Make sure it's tight.
