Hello, I bought a 1987 merc 70hp 3 cyl from Facebook for 200 bucks. has good compression and got it running. original owner however decided it would be a good idea to cut throttle, shift, and power trim cables. i have new throttle and shodt cables coming but havent reallt been able to find the proper diagrams or parts for what the poeer trim harness is supposed to look like. the only cables I have are the 4 or 5 colored ones that come out control box, and then the 3 cables with the metal loops for screwing into something down by the outboard. what else do i need?

Did the prev. owner cut the boat wiring harness? That is the one with the circular plug and 8 or 10 wires.

Generally, power for the PTT system flows thru the boat harness in the red or red/purple wire. It runs to a switch in the control and comes from the switch in the blue wire or blue/white wire for PTT up, and in the green or green/white wire for PTT down. Usually, the PTT wires have bullet connectors at the engine end of the boat harness.

Usually controls will have purple, black, grey wires for the tachometer, and often a PTT gauge sender wire and tan overheat alarm sender wire that are in the form of short separate wires with a small round rubber connector.

Remember the control could be a Mercury one or aftermarket. Also, these changed as did the PTT wiring and the wiring colors over the years. It would be helpful to know what you have.
