Powerhead Rebuild Kits - Sierra vs. OEM

I'm pricing out a full powerhead rebuild for my 1995 Evinrude 70HP ELEO.

I've seen a lot of powerhead rebuild kits on ebay and other sites that contain sierra parts. I've also seen some that contain OEM parts. The sierra rebuild kits are about half the price or OEM.

Is there a big difference in quality between Sierra and OEM parts for outboards? I don't want to spend all this time and effort to rebuild my motor only to have a part fail a couple seasons down the road.

Any advice is much appreciated.

Cheers.

I find the OEM parts better but it's all in what you want to spend. Both kits will achieve the same goal , I've used sierra gaskets and rings, OMC carb kits and OMC gaskets, I'm cheap so if I can save money doing something I do it. If there is a "big" price difference then go sierra, if the OMC stuff is a couple of $$$ different I will buy the OMC.

Thanks for your input BK. I think for this case I will go with sierra parts. I guess I'll be able to tell everyone my results in a few seasons!

What are you rebuilding, was this the one you decided to wait on with the scored cylinders.

Yep that's the one. I'm going to rebuild the 1995 Evinrude 70HP ELEO.

I had a go at my 4-stroke but it's going to cost me even more to fix so I'm back to the 2-stroke.

You were going to send me a list, no?

Hey, is there a rebuild kit that sierra has? I basically need everything except for connecting rods. Crank, Pistons, Rings, bearings, seals and clips. Any suggestions on where to look?

I priced out and sold a kit the other day to a customer just like what your needing less crank. Adding a NEW aftermarket crank price would be $1195.
This includes the following:
3 pistons any size....Std-.010-.020-.030-.040
1 gasket set
1 upper crank brg
2 center main brg's
1 lower crank brg
3 rod brg's
3 wrist pin brg's
6 rod bolts
1 NEW crankshaft
3 carb kits with viton gaskets
1 t-stat assy
1- impeller
