Powerhead & Regulator Burnt

I just put a new powerhead on my Force 120HP OB. The problem is that after running it for 20 mins and then turning it off, the powerpack and regulator catch on fire and burn up. This has now happen twice. The funny thing is it only happens after I turn the engine off. I am now thinking I need to replace the stator also. Thoughts comments????

THIS is a a new one to me!!I have never heard of that happening, and Mercury should be notified,so that they can find out what is going on. They should be more than willing to investigate,as that sounds like a lawsuit waiting to happen, and a very dangerous condition at sea (needless to say).<br />On the face of it, my guess is a dead-short, positive-to-ground thru your ignition switch. but you got me.
