I am currently looking into powering up to a new E-tec(90Hp) on my boat. I currently run a 1983 75 Hp. Evinrude model # E75TRLCTE. If I do purchace an E-tec will I need to get new controls?, Gauges? anything else? Any advice welcome.

Re: Powering up to E-tec, question on controls

If your controls, wiring, and cables are in good shape, they will work with some effort. Of course you are talking about 23 year old stuff here, so you would be a lot better off starting with new.

You will have to add a SystemCheck tach or gauge with the 4 indicator lites and a wiring adapter for harnesses older than 1996 and you will need power trim wiring to the the dash and a switch for it.

The controls, wiring, and cables are in like new condition. The current motor has power trim/tilt with trim gauge, tach, and temp gauge.

My etec90 came with a new tilt/trim gauge and a rev counter. The rev counter has built in alarms for temp, low battery etc
