I think I found a really good deal on a 16ft center console with a 50HP Force outboard. The boat and engine are 10 years old but the engine only has about 10hrs on it from what the seller says.

Are there any known problems with this year model, what should I look for before buying, and is there anything about Force motors in general I should know? I am just looking for any intel on what to look for and wether this is really as good of a deal as it sounds like.

Thanks for any opinions and feedback

Re: Pre purchase question????

Force/Chrysler have their quirks. I have a 21 year old Chrysler that fires up and runs everytime. I've towed 3 or 4 people back in with a lot newer, bigger, and "more reliable" o/b's. If it has been maintained and you do the yearly/seasonal maintenance to it, it will last you several years. That being said be prepared for a couple of things. Parts are getting harder to get for them, they burn pretty dirty compared to other o/b's. On the flip side if you are the least bit handy you can do all the major maintenance items yourself. For the most part my Chrysler is really easy to deal with. Good luck with it.

Hole shots are hard on props on that motor. Keep it easy and dont goose it too many times. If you are buying from a dealer get them to do a compression test for you. If you are buying it from a private party see if you can have them take you for a test drive. Best to do test drive on a cold motor and do at least a 20 minute test drive near top speed. If you have a GPS take it along for the ride.

Mechanics are becoming scarce for these motors as well. Either plan on doing your own work on this of find out first if there are any reputable mechanics in your area.
