Ralph, You keep pushing the fact the the UN sanctions hadn't worked. What do you base this opinion on.
The fact the he was still making things like the El Simoud II Missle - remeber those? And still kept the inspectors out and on the run until we posted an army on his door step

If attacking the terrorists is the answer how come Isreal is still having incidents like this. Isreal has been trying to put down a realitively small group of terrorists for years now and from what I can see it is only getting worse.
Israel is a very small country with its hands tied. They know if they get too tough the lose US Support. They are walking a tight rope. Imagine what the world would be like if they did not bomb the nuclear reactor the French were building Saddam?

So where is the victory? I can see the terrorists sitting back smiling at our problems, it seems to me that they are winning.
I'll take our current situation over another 911 or worse any day of the week. So long as the terrorists are coming to us on foreign soil to be killed I am happy.

Buchanon's theory was to simply declare victory, and go home. While I (as did Buchanon) see a lot of downside to this, the poker player in me says that you cannot get back what you have already lost, and expanding it will only lead to more losses with little gains.
Although is saddens me to say this, Pat is antisemetic - which is pretty well documented. He thinks we are there for the jews and he hates the idea. Viewed through prism Pats positions make sense. He thinks the way to make peace in the Middle East is to sopt supporting Israel and let nature take over. A battle to the death between the Arabs and the Jews.

If there are any lesson learned form the Soviet Occupation of afghanistan is:
Don't let a big super power feed, cloth, train and arm them. That's the real lesson. The Mujahadin would have slaughtered if we did not arm them and back them. The Stinger missle alone turned the tide.

We are there. We MUST win completely. And victory look like this: All the bad guys dead, a friendly government in place and prosperity returned to her people through a fare distribution of her wealth. If that does not work, a glassed over parking lot with a natural green glow would work too. It is up to them which they prefer.

Re: Presidential address on Irag

Here's a good story from our Chief of the Armed Services. This really makes me want to trust any of the spin that comes out of his mouth. Or maybe he just really doesn't know what is going on. He does seem to be on vacation a good bit of the time.

In an interview with the Armed Forces Radio and Television Service ...

Asked about U.S. force presence in Afghanistan, Bush said the U.S. presence is being "gradually replaced" by other troops.

"We've got about 10,000 troops there, which is down from, obviously, major combat operations," he said. "And they're there to provide security and they're there to provide reconstruction help. But both those functions are being gradually replaced by other troops. Germany, for example, is now providing the troops for ISAF [International Security Assistance Force], which is the security force for Afghanistan, under NATO control. In other words, more and more coalition forces and friends are beginning to carry a lot of the burden in Afghanistan."

In fact, the 10,000 troops in Afghanistan represent the highest number of U.S. soldiers in the country since the war there began. By the time the Taliban government had been vanquished in December 2001, U.S. troops numbered fewer than 3,000 in Afghanistan. And three months later, in March 2002, when the last major battle against remnants of the Taliban and al Qaeda took place in eastern Afghanistan, about 5,000 U.S. troops were in the country.

Ever stop to think he was thinking of the entire force including airforce and navy which were never station in-country plus CIA, etc?

3,000, 5,000 or 10,000 give me a break. If that's all you have to hang your hat on I am happy as can be.

You think the President remembers the exact number of troops at the exact time especially when the number are so insignificant to begin with?

You should be amazed we were able to accomplish so much with so little. In comparison how many troops did the Soviets have there for over a decade and not be able to accomplish as much.

See, it is this sort of Bush bashing and gross oversimplifications and generalizations that **** people off.

He keeps saying stuff over and over and over and over and over again, and you guys still don't hear it...Only what you want to hear. The objective is the same objective as it was before insertion. The exit strategy is the same as it was before entrance!
OBJECTIVE: Remove Sadamn and his regime from power, and restore Iraq to a self-governing democracy.
EXIT STRATEGY: To pull out military forces only when and if thier role has been replaced by the civilian equivalent body.
Now then; Who is trying to brainwash whom?!!
It ain't gonna fly here. Too many old warhorses with sick boats in one concentrated area to make it werk for ya. But keep trying, if you feel you must. It's entertaining (it makes me laugh---it makes me cry).

And I allready know you feel the same way today as you did the day after the attacks. But like it or not, that is what Bush said. Somehow, you must learn to live with it, or vote him out next election..(yea right).

Like Watts said,

"You don't need to be smart to be president"
--Republican Congressman J.C. Watts - said at a February campaign appearance on Bush's behalf. Washington Post, 6/11/00
