Interested in any thoughts, ideas, suggestions for either party without the troll cr...p and negative BS. Hopefully someone can run that is worth supporting.

I think Zell Miller has one term left in him. Let him have McCain for a VP (just for thoes that gotta have a Republican on the ticket)

Re: Presidential Candidates

I like Colin Powell as a VP on any ticket. I think there is much to be gained from his experiences, militarily and politically.

Powell is non-controversial. Pick someone we can fight about. (Hillary?)

I couldn't go with Powell. I am sure that his military experience would be an asset but he really has no political experience to speak of. He was a vertial unknown until the gulf war. The Bush administration got rid of him for a reason, he was too liberal for them and not really a team player.

As far a Democrats, the only one that I could support is Joe Lieberman. He would never get the support of the Democrats because he is not far enough to the left for them.

Re: Presidential Candidates

We need a change desperately.

My best choice would be Biden, and I also like Hillary, although I fear an irrational outlash against her.

Guiliani seems to selling out from his ideals, campaigning as he is for Santorum, and McCain is doing the same, speaking at graduation at Liberty University. He has not actually spoke yet, and I could be surprised, but I doubt it.

I like Powell as well, and perhaps even Richardson of New Mexico.

There are a few dems out there I could not support, and few repubs I could support.

We need a change

Re: Presidential Candidates

I'd support a Clinton-Pelosi ticket. I think they'd steer the country back on course.

Re: Presidential Candidates

I don't really care who is our next prez. I can live through the differences in philosophy. I only ask for honesty. If the candidate runs on a certain platform, then stick to it. Don't abandon it after elected, don't say things you have little intention of fulfilling, don't do things you said you would never do.

I know this is a tall order because circumstances change daily when you are the prez of the US. If things change and the prez must go back on something he/she said...fine. Just don't go back on your word while saying you did not. Once credibility is lost with me, I usually do not give it back.

Re: Presidential Candidates

Hillary got support from the NY firemen union for her senatorial race. They said that she was the one who stuck to her promise to modernize their equipment and training. This same union supported a republican the last time around. She is the best candidate the democrats can field and after the Bush experience she will be hard to beat because the main republican trump card, fear,is no longer very effective and a smear campaign against any woman will cause a severe backlash.
In the republican party their is a lot of infighting between the Christian right, the neo-conservatives and the traditional republicans who feel robbed of their party by the christian right and the neos.McCain sold out,Jeb is out(Bush backlash)Newt is working the crowds in New Hampshire. Nobody knows what he is planning on.Rudi is pro civil union and pro-abortion so he scares the christian right.Pataki is too much of a liberal republican.Colin Powel is a bureaucrat not a field commander. And the old traditional
GOP buddy system (you paid your dues, now it is your turn)is a sure looser way this time around. The GOP has to come up with new faces and a new flow of ideas.
How about Condi? She does not have the backroom king maker support, because she is too smart and not for sale.
Rumsfeld you ask?If he tries a primary I would vote for him, because he would cause an across the board democrat victory.

Re: Presidential Candidates

Well, I am an issue by issue person, but generally Libertarian and conservative.

No party-line candidate of either party will do for me, so I like issue by issue people.

An issue by issue person who can cooperate with and get cooperation from the "opposition" is John McCain. The closest we have to a true independent in the Senate. He is my man so far.

Having read Colin Powell's autobiography I see him as a statesman who simply left when he had done his 4 years. He is not a politician.

Condi Rice, I think, is too smart to get into campaign politics.

The most intelligent man currently well known is Stormin' Norman Schwartzkopf. He is also a man who is very articulate and has the quality of LBJ that can get people to cooperate. Don't know if he is willing to sink to politics.

Of the professional politicians who appeal to me one is Joe Leiberman. When the party line doesn't suit him he does what he thinks is right.

So my proposed ticket is McCain and Lieberman.

So I am dreaming. So what? That's what this thread is about, isn't it?

Re: Presidential Candidates

I pray Hillary is elected in 2008...that would mean she would have to get out of NYS.

But wait a minute, as Senator, she's never here now; and she certainly hasn't done anything for us, e.g., her keystone platform plank of 200,000 new jobs if elected Senator last time out.

Yes, she would be a perfect President--promise 'em everything, deliver little or nothing, obfuscate when caught red-handed doing either of the first two.

How about Sheila Jackson Lee and Cynthia McKinney? Some real deep thinkers. I think they could represent all of America fairly and in the best interest of all.

I don't mean to scare ya, that's why the children are in bed, but I read today that Kerry is SERIOUSLY thinking of running in '08

AAAHHHH!!! AAAHHHH!!! AAAHHHH!!!

But I don't like the thought of Billary Clinton either. I just hope the Democrats will give us a real contender to consider. Lord knows that baby bush and his lock-step redumblicans haven't done much good for the average American citizen. Corporate welfare programs yes, the common man, NO
