Is pressure testing necessary? I have a 125 hp 1258x5a. I posted earlier and someone at the very last post said, "don't forget to pressure test it" . I was also told not to overthink this simple procedure. I put oil in, used it today, ran well. Do I need to be worried about anything?

Re: Pressure Test Lower Unit?

Does anyone know of a source to get a new or used gear case cover. I took some chinks of metal out where he water passage is whe. I replaced the seal. Please help. I think your good on your seals if you pull the drain plug and no water runs out after sitting for a Day. Mine had water in it after running for ten minutes on the hose.

Cash you need to start your own thread. The moderator will move you.Post pics of what you want.

Winkel,if there was no water in the oil then don't worry.
A bit of water around the drain is usual. The plug is hard to seal.Milky oil is a problem.
So how much water is there?? Post a pic .J

Re: Pressure Test Lower Unit?

I am going to run it a few times and then check it. It was not at all milky. I was very slightly dark dark grey, nearly jet black. No separated water came out. Purchased the boat used, previous owned said he changed the oil. For all I know the oil could have been very old. I will repost with pics when I drop the oil again. Thanks, Eric
