Prestolite Distributor

I broken the hold down (don't know exactly what it is called) for the mechanical weights in the prestolite distributor. The part under the points/condenser plate. It holds the weights down and keeps them from flying too far out. Is there a replacement for this part? I have done a fair amount of internet searching and haven't found anything yet. That may be because I don't know exactly what it is called.

Thanks for any help!

Yes, and it has instructions to hook it up to OMC engines.

How is that going to work on the omc when the omc needs the esa to operate correctly?

Thanks so much Don. This is why this forum is so valuable.

The site says it works with OMC and Don says so too. There are also some threads here about it.

The Cobra doesn't need the ESA, what it needs is a way to make the engine misfire or have a momentary stop to relieve pressure on the reverse cut of the shift dog so it will come out of gear. That is done by changing the wiring around a bit and eliminating the ESA module. Very easy process on the EST distributor.

Don, you may have just solved all my problems!!!!!!!! First I have heard of this! Have you read any of my other posts, I have been having serious issues with set up on my boat. Just looked at there site and they do have one for the 5.7L 350. Does the shifting work as smooth as a ESA? I am going on my forth rebuilt motor! We kept burning up points! Last motor had scorned cylinders.

But with the conversion module you still need a functioning advance no?
If it's the reluctor arm that's fubar I believe you'll have problems even with an electronic module.

The EST has electronic advance, not mechanical.

What's a reluctor arm?

What's a reluctor arm?

The reluctor arm beneath the breaker plate, has slots in it that limit advance, the flyweights sit on a pin and rotate outward contacting the arm which in turn advances the breaker plate.

Re: Prestolite Distributor

He is going for the EST distributor kit, not a conversion kit for his present distributor. He knows the advance weights and springs are toast in his present distributor.

Re: Prestolite Distributor

Purchased the Delco Voyager EST. I will start a separate thread for my installation.
