prime before painting skeg?

Hello,
I purchased the Yamaha spray paint for my 2005 225 motor. The previous owner drug the motor through sand, which took the paint off the skeg, down to the metal. Should I prime the skeg before repainting with the color? If so, what primer do you recommend?

Bare aluminum showing??? Absolutely prime with zinc chromate primer.
