Primer valve

Hi, I got a 50 hp Evinrude, model E50TLCRM, serial # J043816. I was told this is an 87 model, but not real sure. Anyway, on the fuel primer solinoid there is a red lever. For normal starting and running, does the lever point toward the solinoid or away from it?

CR means its an 1984. The lever on the primer will be parallel to the primer body for normal operation.
