I have been involved in felling enough trees in my 60 years to know that when it comes to dropping a big one, there are no guarantees. I have seen trees twist 180 degrees on the hinge and fall exactly the opposite way. I have seen trees split when you start cutting the hinge, and I have seen trees change direction part way down.
Unless you want to take out liability insurance and risk your financial neck, hire a pro who is insured and equipped for the job.
