Update on my dilema... Have had a Yamaha "1994" 2 stroke 30 hp MLHS for a couple months. Ran very well for several salmon fishing outings and then it cut out at high RPMs and had the warning light on. Did not have owner's manual, couldn't buy owner's manual at Yamaha website. Looked at a free 1998 30hp 2 stroke manual at the Yamaha website and viola! Fill the on board oil tank over 200 CCs (about 1/5 full). Mine looked to be 1/3 full, but I filled 'er up anyway. Took the rig to a lake and the warning light did not come on and the motor worked great! Hopefully this post may aid other new Yami 2 stroke owners out there!
Ps. I now think my engine is a 1993 model that was sold or completed in 1994, hence no manuals available at the Yamaha website for a 30 hp 1994.
