My friend got a 60 HP. E-Tec 2006. His running the motor since last June and never had any problem with it. He live in Quebec, Canada (the cold country). Since the weather is on the cold side, he is experiencing problem when he first start the motor; the motor start right up, idle smoothly and once he leave the dock and raise the RPM the oil light comes up and the motor cut; wait 10-15 minutes and re-start then he is fine for the rest of the day. He is using the XD-100 oil and the last update have been installe.

Somebody have a idea on what could cause that kind of problem.?

Thank you

It's under warranty -- don't mess with it. Let the dealer fix it.

It's still a warranty issue. Try a different dealer. Yes it's inconvenient. My suggestion would be to let the engine idle for at least five minutes before leaving the dock. If the problem goes away, I'd suggest its a cold oil "viscosity" issue. At least that would give you something to talk with BRP about.

Problem solve!! The XD100 oil recipe has been modified last year and my friend was using the old recipe. The new one is a lot lighter, that was formulate to run under cold weather.

My friend just told me that when he look at the new one it was much thinner and the old one is much thicker. The dealer must know or should know.

Re: Problem with E-Tec 60HP.

my 75 etec is identical !!! . complained to dealer 3-4 times an zilch.

I tried the new xd100 for cold climate same thing on cold mornings around 40 F

Apparently the oil is still la problem for ETECs :'(

One dealer told me a new receipe was being worked on by BRP and that some etec users were putting a bit of Naphta in the oil to loosen it up a bit :^.

I do not want to risk my warranty with naphta !

Dealer told me to floor it leaving the dock. I t s important to get up and go fast to shake the thick oil past the sensor circuit otherwise the motor goes into SAFE mode for 10 -15 minutes while it and the oil warns up under the cowling

Shutting down and restarting clears the alarm and SAFE mode.

p.s. READ WARRANTY IMPORTANT NOTE
ETEC warranty requires the tach with 4 LEDs or dispaly with the 4 red LEDs ... an added expenses they don't always tell you when buyng the motor
